augustya Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 If I am making a selection of a Person in a Photo and if I am using a selection brush tool and if there is Section in the image for which I want precise selection like a selection of the hand can I keep the existing selection and add a new selection to that using any other tool ? Like Freehand Selection Tool ? How do I do that ? I just tried using Freehand selection tool and going to Polygon and add when I tried using it, my earlier selection disappeared ! And I could not figure out where to connect the Polygon Line once started ? Like where does it end as in the Pen tool once you start you have to connect it to the same line to end somewhere, right ? iconoclast Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 Hi augustya! In the context bar (below the menu bar) there are some buttons on the left side (Add, Subtract...) for every selection tool. You can also create a quickmask outoff any selection and manipulate its form by painting with a normal brush, using black (paint mask) and white (erase mask). You can activate the quickmask in the Channels panel. There is an entry called Pixel Selection or so. The left button on the right side of the entry switches between selection and mask. augustya 1 Quote

Yes I knew there wer ADD"NEW etc Buttons there but somehow when I was going from Selection Brush Tool to Freehand Polygon Tool The Polygon tool was not adding it. But I think I have now figured out what was going wrong here. Thanks for the head up though. Quote
iconoclast Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 I'm not sure at the moment which one the Freehand Polygon tool is - I use Photo in german language - but I think you mean one of the shapes or the one with the nib symbol. Those are vector tools. They don't create selections. As far as I know there is no function to convert shapes or curves into selections, as there is e.g. in GIMP and Photoshop. It's a little bit surprising for me too. You can only fill the curve/shape on a separate layer and then select it, I'm afraid. To be able to select it, you have to rasterize the layer with the curve/shape. Selection Tools can only select pixels. Quote

It is one of the "Type" options on the Context toolbar of the Freehand Selection Tool. For all three selection types (Freehand, Polygonal, & Magnetic) the usual four "Mode" options are available (New, Add, Subtract, & Intersect). The tool & the same options are available in AP's Photo Persona & AD's Pixel Persona, & in APub if that app's Pixel Persona is available via Studio Link. I am not sure what the OP did wrong but it seems they have figured it out.
