Converting a simple font into a single line for purposes of engraving.

Recommended Posts

I want to engrave a sign with a 90 degree V cutter by following a single line font. When the font is defined by an inside and outside, well, this will not work with a single cutter. I want to generate a single font that is similar to how you create letters and numbers using a pen in your hand.

Just search for single line fonts, there are plenty about, unless there is a specific font you need to convert that is not a single line font?

Example of single line fonts: https://k40lasercutter.com/single-line-fonts/

The vast majority of fonts are constructed using using filled curves, rather than curves with a width, and you can’t convert ‘filled-curve’ text to ‘curve-with-width’ text without a lot of manual work.

There are some fonts which are constructed as you would need them, called ‘single-line fonts’, but I’ve never used one so don’t know how well the Affinity suite would handle them, if at all. and the Affinity suite seems to handle at least some of them.
Edit: Changed the text due to firstdefence’s response below (in case anyone reading this thread simply stopped at this post and didn’t read further).

Try searching the forums for cricut and see if there is any advice – I’m sure this sort of thing has come up before.
