iuli Posted April 30, 2022 Posted April 30, 2022 I purchased Daub Caligo brushes from Affinity Shop Add-ons November 21 last year but I never had the chance to try them all as I only needed the blenders for a project (which work perfectly well now too). Now that I need most of the package for a project, I see performance issues while using some of the brushes from Daub Caligo - Dry. It happens with both Affinity Photo and Designer. Tested with a large canvas (as that’s the project’s size I would have to use the brushes) 10.000px x 10.000px, with iPad Pro M1 8gb ram. (Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post, I don’t know where else to post about ad-ons issues). Video proof below. All the best. Dan C Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 Hi @iuli, Thanks for your report! I can confirm I'm able to replicate this with the brush category shown in your screen recording - I believe this to be caused by some rather large nozzle, texture & sub brush files which these specific brushes use, which will significantly increase the processing and RAM required to use the brushes. However I would not expect this significant of a delay, even with these larger files being used for the brushes, so I'm getting this logged with our team here now to improve this. I hope this helps iuli 1 Quote
Dan C Posted May 3, 2022 Posted May 3, 2022 @iuli, I've spoken with our QA/Dev teams regarding this, and they've confirmed that pixel documents over a certain size will fall-back to CPU rendering, which can be considerably slower than GPU rendering, causing the delays you're seeing. The size of the document before this happens varies between iPad models, depending on the amount of vRAM the app has access to. If you create a smaller document, for example 7,000px x 7,000px and try this brush again, you should hopefully find that the brushes react faster during painting - this has been logged with our developers to provide clearer feedback to the user when creating documents that exceed the vRAM allowed sizes. Please do let me know if this improves performance for you! iuli 1 Quote
iuli Posted May 3, 2022 Author Posted May 3, 2022 @Dan C Thank you for your interest in this issue! I can confirm that using the brushes in question with documents up to 8000px x 8000px, the brushes work perfectly. Even after adding dozens of pixel layers, the brushes react just as fast and lag-free. Thank you once again - and have a wonderful day!
