Bridgewater.South Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 I'm pretty new to affinity, but I've been messing around with the table function for a few hours now and I haven't found a way to alter the length of an individual row and other qualities of individual cells similar to the picture below. Is there a way to do that which I'm missing? I intend to replicate this asset many times over so if I could make it into a single easily duplicated object that would be great. Quote
Staff Lee D Posted April 29, 2022 Staff Posted April 29, 2022 Hi @Bridgewater.South Welcome to the forums. The tables in Publisher don't have that kind of customisation available, you can see most of the available on the Table studio panel. You could create something similar using text frames or shapes(would need to be converted to a text frame). Then position and size as required, at the point of completing the design you could group those together and create duplicates to use in other areas of your project. Quote

Bridgewater.South Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Thanks Thomaso, After fiddling around with the settings you recommended for a little bit I was able to get something that's pretty close and I learned quite a bit too. I think I'll be able to make it look pretty awesome in the near future but for now it'll serve my purposes. Quote

Like Lee before I think with a set of single Rectangle shape objects (with or without text frames) such a figure could be easier to create + to adjust + to style, just because object / layer selection is easier than the way of cell selection in a table + the interface in the Table panel. – Possibly you haven't detected the Text Frame panel yet, which also allows to define a border around a text frame? The only advantage I can think of for tables here is if you need to limit the border strokes to certain edges of the rectangles, e.g. left or bottom only. That wouldn't be possible with rectangles / text frames. Now I also wonder, what you, @Lee D had in mind with your reply by saying literally "don't have" (instead of e.g. "cumbersome" or "easier with"): 3 hours ago, Lee D said: The tables in Publisher don't have that kind of customisation available, Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
Bridgewater.South Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 (edited) Ultimately it was because I wanted the option to provide a little space for the art. With those parts of the table removed, it flows into the rest of the page's space while pairing each stat block with a visual. I figured it was easier to build a table that is 90% done and just has to have a few details corrected in order to be correct since it's a task that's going to be repeated 40-60 times. While I was exploring I also found some of the ways you can modify the border of the tables so I'm going to try to do some pretty unique things with them overall. The first one took a bit to figure out but the second and third variation took maybe two or three minutes each and I'm feeling pretty good about them now.
