John Nyquist Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Am I able to move/copy my Affinity software to my new computer? I am assuming not because when I did, and tried to open it, it asked me for my registration number which I not longer have. Thanks. Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 28, 2022 Posted April 28, 2022 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums. Assuming the old and new computers both used macOS, or both use Windows, then yes you can move (reinstall) the programs. However, if you purchased from Serif via the Affinity Store you will need to re-validate the installation, using your Product Key and the email address you used for purchase. You can find that info in your account at https://affinity.store/account/downloads if you no longer have it. On the other hand, if you purchased from the Mac App Store or the Microsoft Store then you just need to login to that Store on the new computer, using the same account info as on your old computer, and you can download/install from there. However, if the old and new machines are not both Mac or both Windows, you'll need to purchase a new license for the new computer. I can confirm there is an Affinity account under your email address with a product key for both Affinity Designer and Photo on macOS - using the following instructions from Walt you should be able to find these details: 42 minutes ago, walt.farrell said: if you purchased from Serif via the Affinity Store you will need to re-validate the installation, using your Product Key and the email address you used for purchase. StewartTower Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Walt; is it still the case that a new OS requires a new license for Affinity? Is this also the case for any addons that were purchased for the previous OS? Thanks. Quote
Ldina Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I'm not Walt, but no, you don't need a new license. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and transferred all my Affinity and other apps to it. I did need to log into my Affinity Account to authorize the apps on my new computer, but it was fast and easy. I went from an Intel Mac to a MBP with Apple Silicon, and a completely different OS (Ventura to Sequoia). StewartTower Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Sorry, Ldina. I was thinking Walt might see my comment and reply himself. Thanks for the info. Ldina 1 Quote
PaulEC Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 The important thing is that the Universal Licence allows you to install on Windows, Mac and iPad. But with licences for the individual apps, you can only install them on the OS that they were purchased for (i.e. Windows or Mac, not both.) Any addons and fonts purchased from the Affinity store can be downloaded for the new installation. (I think there is an option to install them automatically.) You may have to check if all addons will work on the new OS, but AFAIK most of them will.
