Pixel Brushes Not Showing Unless Colour Is Changed

Hard one to explain, but it's been bothering me for ages.

When I select the Paint Brush Tool I have to either choose a colour, or reselect the colour it's currently set to using the colour wheel it doesn't show up on the canvas. I can see it on the thumbnail in the layers panel and eventually it will appear if I do more strokes or select another layer.

As long as I remember to reselect the colour I'm using it's OK, but if I don't do that and I'm moving back and forward between tools or modes and select the Pixel brush it won't show up on the canvas. So I keep having to go through the same thing over and again because I usually forget.

Is it possible for you to make a screen recording of this issue to help me investigate further.

I could do but I don't know what purpose it would serve because you won't be able to see me applying the brush strokes that aren't showing up? All the details about the bug are better just just explained with words. I suppose you would be able to see the thumbnail appearing though - problem is I just tried to recreate this problem using a new file and it didn't do it - so maybe it only happens when the file gets cluttered? It happens all the time when I'm working. I'll see what I can do about a video..
