I really like the export features of Designer but find it frustrating that I have to select "Selection Only" from the dropdown menu every single time... It would be a huge time saver if I could export a selection straight away, for example with a modified Export shortcut.

Hi @Julien Riesen

There is a shortcut to bring up the Export window, (Ctrl/Cmd + Alt + Shift + S) and shortcut defaults can be amended through Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts.

However there is not the functionality to have the default option for Area set to 'Selection Only' rather than 'Whole Document'.

There is a dedicated section for feedback and suggestions on the Forum, you may wish to post a request in there.

I’m curious as to how that would be a “huge time saver”.
How often are you exporting and, if very often, why so often and under what circumstances?
Have you looked at the Export Persona?

The thing is that I want to be able to export my selections on the fly, without having to set slices first. For motion graphics, I usually have tens of artboards from which I export only some elements that might change often. That's why this shortcut would be a huge time saver.

Thanks for the extra detail; that makes your requirements clearer.
Have you looked at the Continuous functionality in the Export Persona Slices Panel?
If you use this, any changes to the layers within a slice will cause that slice to be automatically exported without user involvement.
