I tried to upload a file made in AD; saved it as PSD but the receiving internet source says "file does not match extension" and would not accept the file. Is this because the file was not created in Photoshop? I haven't had problems in the past with other recipients who need to open as psd.

Welcome too the Serif Affinity forums.

Did you Save, which would create a .afdesign file, or did you Export, which could create a .psd file?

When you say you saved the file "as PSD" how specifically did you do that? If you just changed or added a .psd extension to it after saving it from AD, that won't work. You need to export it like @walt.farrell said.

I exported in AD as psd file. So the extension was .psd when I exported.

Edit to clarify: I had to upload the file to a website, not send it to a recipient. That's why I wonder if somehow the file was  identified as not having been created in Photoshop. When I researched the phrase, I found that as one reason why it was rejected.

The PSD file wouldn't be a "Full' PSD, Affinity cannot replicate Adobes proprietary code. I'm not sure of how the file format is written in Affinity but I would suspect it's more like a PDF than a PSD. There must be a distinction between a PSD and a PDF from Affinity else why have both as an export option but why not try PDF format if the website allows for that.

Pretty sure it's a real PSD, just with some features missing.

It must be different from PDF, because an exported PDF will have editable text, and an exported PSD won't.

Would be nice to know the differences, the benefits of a PSD over that of a PDF and visa-versa.
