Selecting a layer does indeed select that layer but the SHAPE of the selection is that of the largest item in the layer list - in this case the lowest item in the list, which is the background. So, as the background is much larger than the selected layer, I have to zoom out to a ludicrous degree in order to see the effect of my required rotation or scaling. Any thoughts?

Hi @MarcoBoi welcome to the forums,

This is likely functionality as intended, as selecting a group layer which contains a large background image should always draw the selection around the largest layer in the group.

In case we're missing something, could you perhaps provide us with a screen recording demonstrating your issue?

Thanks for the response! In fact, the selected layer is NOT part of a group, it is a discrete layer. The blue bounding box correctly encompasses the selected layer, but the toolbox references the shape and size of the background layer. I can upload a couple of screenshots...

Thanks for sending the file over, upon opening your file I can see that the selection handles when selecting the green earring layer are actually surrounding a rectangular selection marquee, not the background layer. upon deselecting this (Cmd/Ctrl + D) and re-selecting the  earring layer it correctly moves the handles over just the object.
