steve Frankland Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 I created this menu in Serif a few years ago. As Serif no longer exists and has been replaced with Affinity, whenever i try to open the attached file it opens for a second, then crashes. What can i do to resolve this? menu2020 final draft new cover.afpub Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 17, 2022 Posted April 17, 2022 Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, @steve Frankland. First, Serif is a company, and is certainly still around. Many years ago they produced various applications named, e.g., PagePlus, PhotoPlus, DrawPlus, etc. Those applications are no longer sold. Currently they produce a different set of applications named Affinity Publisher, Affinity Photo, and Affinity Designer. You've shown us a .afpub file, which should be a file you created in Affinity Publisher. And your file opens fine for me, and seems to be usable. What OS do you run, and what release of Affinity Publisher do you have? Where did you purchase it? steve Frankland Posted April 17, 2022 Author Posted April 17, 2022 Hi Walt I originally used a licenced Serif application. As Serif offered me an update programme to affinity publisher and designer I paid and downloaded the software. Now the wife wants me to create a new menu for her and I need to be able to open this and tweak it. Im glad it opens for you which suggests its my laptop with a problem. Im presuming it stays open for you as after a second or so the affinity programme shuts down after a few seconds for me. My version is 1.10.5.1342 thanks for listening steve Quote

Affinity Publisher and Affinity Designer are not updates to, or upgrades from, Serif PagePlus and Serif DrawPlus. They were built from scratch, using a completely new cross-platform codebase. 1 hour ago, steve Frankland said: Im using Windows, but I will spark up the mac and try to open it on that as well You can’t use the Windows versions of the Affinity apps on your Mac. You would either need to download the trial versions or make separate purchases. Can you still run the legacy applications on your current Windows system? Arte Posted April 18, 2022 Posted April 18, 2022 The file is an Affinity Publisher file as @walt.farrell mentioned and opens fine here too. My AFPub version is the same as that of @steve Frankland so theoretically it should open without issues. @steve Frankland are you perhaps trying to open the file from a network drive (NAS) or cloud storage? If so there could be a connection timeout causing issues. If you are trying to open it from a zipped folder it could be a file access issue. In either case move/extract the file to your local drive and try to open it again to see if that solves your issue. It could also be that your install somehow got corrupted, then you may have issues with other files as well and reinstalling the program may solve the issue. Quote

If the application crashes, then there should be a crash report. Upload the crash report for the developers to examine. Quote ---------- Windows 10 / 11, Complete Suite Retail and Beta
