MNstudios Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Hi there, I'm new to Affinity Designer and I watched a few tutorials but I can't figure out this issue. I exported a pdf from a SketchUp model to Affinity and I'm trying to fill colour in it but its not working. What am I missing? I've attached the pdf file here and I would really appreciate it if anyone has some suggestions. Thanks! simple interior.pdf Quote
thomaso Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 To apply a fill colour to an object or to fill an object with colour you need a closed shape / contour which defines the area for the colour. Unfortunately your PDF contains single vector strokes ("Curve") only, there are no closed shapes like e.g. rectangle or parallelogram, and even some of the straight lines are created as separate strokes, as selected here: One workaround to fill with colours could be to draw closed shapes with the vector tools of Affinity – which would be quite time consuming. A simpler way would be to rasterize the drawing to be enabled to use the magic wand tool to select closed areas + the bucket tool to fill a selection with colour. When you rasterize the drawing you can do it with the entire drawing (as I did) or select certain curves (strokes) to create groups before rasterizing (e.g. to keep the drawing separated in various layers). Also it's up to you to use extra layers for the colourizing. MNstudios 1 Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
MNstudios Posted April 29, 2022 Author Posted April 29, 2022 Thank you for your reply! Sorry, novice here: How do I rasterize a drawing? Quote
thomaso Posted April 29, 2022 Posted April 29, 2022 It's an entry in the main menu "Layer", and together with others in the Right-Click popup menu. Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6

In case it is not obvious, you can right-click on selected layer(s) either in the document window or on the Layers panel to open the popup menu with the 3 rasterize options. You can also assign custom keyboard shortcuts to the items on the "Layer" or any of the other menus.
