Hey there,

when I add an image (linked, not embedded) to my Publisher document and select it, I can click "Edit Image" (or "Edit Document" for .afpub files) and make changes to the image.
After that, I would expect some way to "sync" or "update" these changes back to the selected image in my Publisher document (so it's like I edit the image from Publisher inside Photo and if I close Photo, the changes are visible in Publisher).
I tried saving the file, but if I save the file with layers, my jpeg will turn into an .afpub file – and that is not linked and therefore not updated. So I have to re-add/replace it.

Is there a way to sync the changes back after clicking "Edit Image?"

Thanks
Julian

Welcome too the Serif Affinity forums.

When the file is Linked, you're editing the original file. When you Save it you should get a notification popup ("toast") in Publisher telling you it has changed and (possibly) offering to update. I don't remember. If it's just a notification you can open the Resource Manager to do the Update.

You can also set a Preference in Publisher to automatically update changed Linked files.

Thanks for your reply.

Setting it to automatically update does work for the case where I have already saved it to an .afpub file and that gets changed. If I first import the jpeg image and then save it as an .afpub (from the "Edit Image" mode) that doesn't work, of course.

I don't thinks this is how the workflow is supposed to be. But if that's the case, I'd probably continue with a feature request for this.

Correct. If you save it to a different format, you have not updated the version that is Linked from your parent .afpub document.

In that case, you would need to use Replace Image or Replace Document (from the Context Toolbar) or Replace (from the Resource Manager), because you would be including an entirely different document.

The intended workflow is that you would Save and overwrite the existing file that you have Linked to your .afpub document, and then Publisher would recognize that the Linked file has changed and automatically update it in the .afpub document.

If you choose to Save under a different name, or Save or Export to a different format or diffferent name, then it is a different file and will not affect the existing Publisher document that links to it. And in that case, if you do want the new document in your Publisher document, you would Replace the file to get the new, different file included.
