ISS Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 I have created a paragraph style sheet at 18pt with a leading setting of 90%. But when I choose the style sheet it sets a leading of 64pt. I assumed I had set up the style sheet wrong. But the leading remains at 90% in the style sheet settings and at 64pt. I can't see why this is happening or to stop it. If I have to change the leading each time it defeats the point of having a style sheet. Also each time I create a text frame the text is white whereas I would normally expect black to be the default. Any advice on this issues gratefully received. Quote
walt.farrell Posted April 9, 2022 Posted April 9, 2022 It would be easiest to diagnose if you would provide a small sample document (.afpub, .afdesign, or .afphoto) with the setup you've created, and with some text that is not behaving as you expected. Could be you have a Baseline grid turned on, either in the Text Frame or on the page. Could be you have chosen the Vertical Alignment to be Justify Vertically. As Walt pointed out we would need to see a simple document where you have made this 90% leading and get 64 points instead of 16 points. ISS Posted April 9, 2022 Author Posted April 9, 2022 Thanks for the replies. I may try to do a sample document but at the moment trying to complete the thing I'm working on which I can't really share. The vertical alignment was definitely not justify. In a sense the question of why the leading was 64pt when I had a leading setting of 90% was the puzzle. The character tab on the right was showing 64pt and there was a huge gap between lines. I noticed that for some reason there was also a character style selected and when I reset this to no style, it seemed to correct itself. I'm not clear how this happened as I hadn't (intentionally) selected a character style. As you may guess I'm just finding my way with Affinity but the text and style arrangements seem very different to all other packages I've used (Quark, Indesign, pageplus). Quote
Dan C Posted April 10, 2022 Posted April 10, 2022 Hi @ISS, Welcome to the Affinity Forums & I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble! 20 hours ago, ISS said: Also each time I create a text frame the text is white whereas I would normally expect black to be the default I'd recommend selecting the Text Frame tool, then with this active navigate to Edit > Defaults > Factory Reset. Once done, draw a new text frame & you should find the font defaults to black Quote

Note that in a current session Affinity keeps some last used style properties for newly created objects. This can be handy for continuing in a current style for new objects, but can also be confusing if you prefer the default settings instead. Here's a discussion about expected / desired vs. possibly occurring behaviour of "Defaults": Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
