Hi all,

Can an expert kindly tell me if the trial is...

(a) 10 Days > i.e. I will 'taste' but not produce anything

(b) 30 Days > i.e. I will produce something short and clunky

(c) 90 Days > i.e. I will produce plenty - form a new Affinity habit - and maybe become a walking talking Serif evangelist

Just wondering bc my DMG says it will be just a '10 Day Trial' - definitely too short for me

Many thanks for your assistance.

M

Yes - OP writes that a standard 10 days is not enough.

That is the standard trial for individuals.

Note that there are three Affinity applications, and you could do a trial of each.

Many (but not all) of the functions are common between the applications, so depending on what you're creating, it is possible you could do it in either Photo or Designer, which could give you 20 days if you do one trial before starting the other one, assuming that the functions you need are in both applications.

Also, if you purchase directly from Serif, you will have an additional 14-day period where you can return your purchase, for any reason, and get a refund. Thus you have, effectively, a 24-day trial period if you purchase from Serif.

Well I'm very grateful for such fast and helpful feedback - thank you both (very) much.

It seems unfair to offer any criticism with such a noble project/product, but FWIW I'll explain my use case...

I'm a mature University student ('individual') with a 40 pg technical document to complete by end of April..

Instead of GDocs or Nihilstrator etc. i thought this an ideal opportunity to finally try Affinity.

I'd need 14 days. 30 would be ideal.

I found way too many trial links online... 7-day, 14 day, 30 day (90 day...).

(Confusing).

Nonetheless I am now super grateful for your fast and friendly feedback- (thanks Walt I know your cousins :)).

I'll see how I go with the Publisher trial link (cheers Psenda) and I'm quietly confident I'm gonna love it.

M

PS

BTW Maybe a good way to turn 100s of universities onto Affinity would be to create an asset library of Dissertation + Scientific Doc Templates?

Free for academics to use & master (unless High Res PDF printing).

GDocs has taken over academia but its really not fit for purpose IMO.

So many docs are heavy with the same (basic) tables & charts and SWOTs & PESTLEs...a library of customisable Affinity assets would be popular..

I don't know from what sources you draw information, but the standard trial period is and always was 10 days. Only during the covid time was this period extended to 90 days.

Just to get back to you Psenda..

I wanted to answer your curiosity re: the 'source I draw information from' as you say...

It's a little place called 'Google'.

Today - a Google search for "affinity publisher trial days" returns a great page with an announcement (from John Atkin, Head of PR at Serif) that Affinity offer a 90 Day Free Trial. Bravo! I thought...

Changing it up somewhat - a slightly shorter Google search: "affinity publisher trial" returns a different page.

It announces that Serif offer a 30 Day Free Trial (for 'Teams'). Not so shabby I thought.

PS, I'm not sure what part of Praha you are in, but in the part of the world that I'm in, CoVid is growing faster than at any time in the last 18 months.

So my suggestion is that Serif takes down any false advertising. (It's not a good look).

For anyone using that fringe search engine I mentioned...its unnecessarily confusing.

And (in terms of so-called 'customer journey' (if thats important to Serif) - its very disappointing obviously.

Finally, based on the above, your somewhat brusque "is and always was 10 days" riposte...may need revising?

Have a great (and CoVid-Free) day Psenda.

Is mise le meas,

Omar

That one is accurate. There is a 30 Day Free Trial for corporate (multiple seat) and educational (school, again multiple seat) purposes.

I'm not sure why they've left the 90 Day page up, though. I've mentioned that to them.

These are results from Google, lord knows where the pages are stored.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

The 90-day one is a news release that's still available on the Affinity website. They apparently don't remove old press/news releases.

True but we could do better with a notice at the top or something.

Sorry for the confusion @Omar Serif, I'll see what can be done

@Psenda: Sorry I can't fully understand your English (but thanks for your replying once again)

@Patrick Connor: No worries mate. Thanks for your understanding. (Tho' truth be told, it's a very minor inconvenience for me personally).

@SerifPR: with such a good (revolutionary) product, communications should be clear, consistent (and always inclusive).

e,g, If kids at college are (publicly) made to feel like lesser citizens of Serif (without 'VIP' access to Corporate Discounts (Teams), then it's a big fail IMO.

Not to be all OED about it- but the word 'Affinity' means 'empathy'...

So maybe it'd be better Serif keep their (great) corporate offers (in the corporate sphere).

And show a little empathy (somewhere else) for the college kids who can't afford Illnesstrator - but who live and breathe design.

(They) will after all be the future of the company.

Not old dogs like me :)

Thank you everybody (sincerely).

I will be sure to pass all of this info on to the relevant troublemakers from the impoverished academic cohort I speak of :)

What I've learned is that, even if the 'front gate' to the festival that is Affinity seems closed (at first sight)...there are a few cunning ways students can sneak in...

All these lowlifes have to do is:

[a] wait until they are ejected from the festival - go back to the gate - and dutifully ask security to admit them a second time - they will!

[b] ask permission from their favourite teacher to use their school's special discount

[c] pretend they are disappointed by the first 14 acts - ask for a refund - let the processing delay keep them at the festival for another 14 acts!

Now - this is all good news from a potato-chip-eating, degenerate student's perspective (If i remember correctly...).

But in business, and especially in Serif PR, it's still a fail I'm afraid.

A big fat fail too.

(But its an adventure in infantilism which students will adapt to, I'm sure)

Now...where is my Pixies Live in Newcastle VHS Box Set...damn
