Slice of cake

Recommended Posts

  • Staff

Hi @Josie,

As has been confirmed in multiple previous threads, it would be much better to start this design yourself and then come back to this topic with your artwork and any specific questions you may have to help finish the piece - as the tools and techniques needed to draw a slice of cake will be very similar to your other posts where you have asked for assistance, such as:

I'd recommend using any of the techniques that have been taught to you by many of our kind forum users - then if you have any specific questions I'm sure we'd be able to help further :)

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

I’m sure Josie can do it herself. It’s a piece of cake! :D

How is this?

It’s invisible at the time of writing, but I’m probably just too quick off the mark.

Edit: Now that I can see it, it’s fair to say that it’s quite nicely done. A little more texture would perhaps make it look more appetizing, but I don’t know whether you’re deliberately aiming for a flat style.

Just try to make it more appealing and experiment with things/colours you like

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

I was thinking in terms of adding noise, but you might want to follow up on Carl’s suggestion and experiment a little (or a lot).

It is nice.

May I suggest please that it would be improved if there were three colours rather than two colours, by making the icing on the top a deeper pink, like a flamingo, and then adding colourful stars like Carl suggests, but only on the top of the icing on the top of the cake, not on the side of the slice.

I don't know if it is reasonably possible, but could the smaller edge of the slice be slightly curved so that it looks more like as if the slice has been cut from a circular cake?

I wonder whether your laptop display settings need adjusting, William. @Josie’s original screenshot already shows a deeper pink (#FBC2CB) for the icing on the top. The filling colour is #F1D0CB; i.e. less red and more green, making for a lighter (relatively yellow) result.

That is not only possible, but also easy to achieve with the Node Tool. If you wanted greater precision you could use the Pie Tool to create an elliptical arc, but that’s probably overkill for a project like this.

Looking at the picture on line I do not see a clear difference.

When I opened the .afdesign file in Affinity Designer I could not see a difference.

However, when I did a Control 1 and looked at it closely, I noticed a definite difference where the two colours are directly touching on the top of the cake.

But is that correct artistically, surely the colour at the side of the cut icing would be the same as the top of the icing, or maybe the angle of the lighting would make it look different, but it is the same colour as the filling.

So, well, yes, the colour of the icing is a different colour from the colour of the filling, yet I consider a bigger difference would be an improvement, but I am only a hobbyist at art.
