Affinity Photo: copy/paste of a section of an image does not work

I wanted to copy a section of a picture and paste this section as an extra layer: unfortunately the whole image is pasted and not the section. I'm going crazy...

Look at the Layers panel, where you’ll almost certainly find that the selected layer is identified as an ‘Image’ layer. Right-click it and choose the ‘Rasterize’ option so that you can work with individual pixels (instead of treating the picture as a single object).
