I have a file with many artboards in Affinity Designer. I am gradually creating the content of each artboard. After changing the artboard, I export one artboard. The filename of the exported artboard is set to the file name. I need the file name to match the artboard name.

For example, I have the filename 'icons.afdesign'. I have the artboard 'mn-hobby' in it. When I select File > Export..., I select the PNG tab so the file name is set to 'icons.png'. I need the name to be 'mn-hobby.png'.

Hi @bures,

If you want the artboard to be exported with the name of the artboard by default instead of the file name, try using the Export Persona and exporting the artboards as slices.

More information on how this works is available in the help guide:

Using: Affinity Designer 1.10.5

Hello,

To follow up on this suggestion… it should be very great and more productive if when we use « Save As… » AND we select a specific Area (e.g. « Header » area) in the list… Affinity use the area's name as default filename (instead of the orginal .afdesign filename).

I think we loose a consequent time each time we export just one or two areas… several times a day.

It will be very great.

Thanks.

Best regards

The Export Persona is perfect for this "several times a day." kind of work.

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

"Save As" will only give you a native Affinity file, e.g. a .afdesign file. If you want a file other applications can use you'll need to use Export or the Export Persona.

Hi @NathanC Export Persona is great and I do use it when it makes the most sense (lot's of exports or batches or different file formats or sizes etc...), but I think the expected behaviour should be when you "export as" with a single particular artboard that the export filename take on the artboards name. Similarly and sort of related is the expected behaviour that when you add an artboard it should add a 002 or some sort of "copy or new" indication to the end of the name otherwise you end up with a bunch of Artboard 1's in your layer stack which is basically, well... what's the point frankly.

Admittedly, I'm no software engineer or programmer so please tell me if this type of request would be extremely difficult to implement. But I think these expected behaviours aren't too out there. Seems by version 2 now some of this basic artboard housekeeping should get some love. I use Designer everyday for professional work and would love to see this little update make it in sometime soon. Pretty please. 🙂  Big fan of AD but somewhat mystified by these 2 artboard related oversights.

Hey @retrograde,

I wouldn't be able to specifically comment on how difficult the feature would be to implement since i'm not part of the development team, however regardless of the feasibility if this is something you would like to see implemented feel free to make a post on the feedback section of the forums, personally I think it is a good idea. 🙂

This isn't a "good idea," it's an OBVIOUS idea. I saw this raised in another thread dating back to 2017. How in the WORLD hasn't this most-basic-of-basic features not been implemetned yet??? This kind of thing is standradized everywhere else...
