Bluehen Posted March 28, 2022 Posted March 28, 2022 Text styles formatting changes to my Master Page are not updating existing page content. Need help troubleshooting for a corrective solution. Changes to paragraph style and color are updating properly. Quote

Can you give some specific examples of things that don't work? Generally if a change to a Master Page does not propagate to the document pages, it means you have done some editing on the document pages that has broken (unlinked) the content from the Master Page. In that case, if you look at the Layers panel in the document page, and expand the Master Page layer, you will see broken bars on the left edge of layers that have unlinked attributes. If you hover the mouse over the layer name you should get a tooltip telling you what is unlinked. Bluehen Posted March 28, 2022 Author Posted March 28, 2022 Yes, the document pages are showing "unlinked attributes." Im uncertain what I may have done to create this. Is there a method to recreate the linkage without editing each document page? Quote

If you can answer my question above about what you mean by "text style formatting changes" (i.e., exactly what did you try to do on the Master that did not carry over into the document pages), and perhaps show a screenshot that includes the tooltip with the unlinked attributes, perhaps we can tell you. 24 minutes ago, Bluehen said: Is there a method to recreate the linkage without editing each document page? I'm not aware of any easy method to do that, but I would hesitate to say "no" without knowing for sure what you did. Do I have this correct? On the Master Page, you selected a Text Frame, then changed its Font in the Context Toolbar? If so, I believe that is the expected behavior. Once you have text in a Text Frame, changes to the Frame's text properties (such as Font) do not affect the existing text. You would have to have the text selected, and then change the Font in the Context Toolbar. Bluehen Posted March 29, 2022 Author Posted March 29, 2022 Yes, you are correct. So I understand there is no "fix" for the broken links? Quote

The attributes of the text are set when you create the text, and the attributes of the Frame won't affect the text it already contains if you change them. You might consider using Text Styles instead of Text Frame defaults. When you change a Text Style all the text that uses it will be affected immediately. walt.farrell Posted March 29, 2022 Posted March 29, 2022 But to change the font of your existing text, just double-click on some text in the Frame and then use Ctrl or Cmd + A, and make the change in the Context Toolbar. If you have linked Frames, that will select and change all of the text in all of them at once.
