Joro Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 Hi All, I'm new to Affinity Publisher and have been getting an error when trying to export to PDF. There were no problems with hyperlinks and although pre-light showed missing character warnings this was not preventing the export. As a test, and totally by chance, I rasterized some of the jpegs that I had imported and this fixed the problem. But this doesn't make sense to me and I wanted to ask if there's an explanation / solution for future documents? I've uploaded the file with the 4 images that seem to be the problem. Many thanks in advance for any help! Test File - Presentation.afpub Quote
Staff Callum Posted March 14, 2022 Staff Posted March 14, 2022 Hi Joro, The images in this file are missing due to being linked and not embedded so it exports fine for me unfortunately. Please could you try providing a copy of your file with the images embedded so I can try this here at my end. It could just be the case that one of these images had become corrupt and rasterising them or re adding them solved this issue. If you could provide a copy of the file that crashes or a crash log I should be able to provide more info. Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
Joro Posted March 14, 2022 Author Posted March 14, 2022 Thanks Callum, see updated file attached - jpegs embedded. Cheers, J Test File - Presentation.afpub Quote
thomaso Posted March 14, 2022 Posted March 14, 2022 The export error seems to be caused by 1.) the colour profile in the images ("Gray Gamma 2.2", no suffix) in combination with 2.) the clipping mask via Vector Crop Tool. If I alter the profile (e.g. to sRGB default .icc) (see page 2) or remove the clipping rectangle (see page 3) the export works without error. Joro Posted March 15, 2022 Author Posted March 15, 2022 Thanks @thomaso!! Much appreciated. I can only see how to change the colour profile for the whole document. Would you be able to advise how I can do this for the individual image? It sounds as though it is an error with the images I'm using rather than the software then? J Quote

Which application allows an ICC grayscale profile for a RGB image? Photoshop tells me that the ICC profile is not valid and ignores it. I hope the Affinities would do the same. Just open & save the image with another profile. If linked you can use the "Edit Image" button in the context toolbar. I am not aware of a possibility for embedded resources. I'd say there are two issue sources: one is your image files with its profile, the other is Affinity with its way to handle the masking rectangle, respectively Vector Crop Tool. In particular the latter is reported already for various issues / bugs, some of them tagged by Serif. Callum 1 Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
