I want to save the FX , outer glow that I applied to a paragraph in the assets panel. But It saves the text as well. I want to be able to apply that outer glow to other paragraphs in my document without the text.

Also, How do I save a color that I have selected to the swatches so I can use it again?

I am using Photo and Publisher,

thanks ahead.

Setup FX on a non-text object and save the style.

You can organize your own color in Document swatch.
Add the color you want to keep by clicking the button next to the swatch category.

Or maybe it should be a style. But I still can't find how to save just the effect, the outer glow.

For a style ...

Afterwards perform a right mouse click on the newly created style in the Styles panel (Style 4 in my above sample recording) and rename it to let's say "Outer Glow" or the like!

☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan
☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2

Can I do this in Photo or in Publisher? I have mainly been working in these. Haven't really gotten into Designer yet.

Yes, Styles panel is a common feature in Affinity Suite.

Yes, AFAIK all Affinity apps have styles support and thus can deal with those then.

I tried following the video of v_kyr but when I try to apply it to text, the stroke shows up as well. I just want the outer glow.

Copy the original text that's with fx, then select a target text and run Paste FX commend(option-shift-V),

did cmd shift V

The suggestion earlier was Option Shift V. What does the Edit menu show that your shortcut for Paste FX is?

Okay, I got it to work. I was trying to change the specs on the fx I already had and it wouldn't do it. So I turned it off and pasted it on and voila!

Thank you all for your time!
