Difficulty in file management has convinced me its time to delete the app and reinstall.

Usually this is a brain dead operation, but the vanilla setup saving files within the Affinity Photo directory has cost me and is not satisfactory for me.

Issues include:

  • Assets
  • Brushes
  • Custom swatches

Exported, check, check, dont remember…check

Yes, you'll need to make sure you've exported copies of any Assets, Brushes, swatches, etc. that you've installed manually. (Anything installed via My Account should be safe, assuming you can get your application Registered/Signed-In again after the reinstall.)

Also, anything that you've saved in the Affinity Designer folder in "on my iPad" (or whatever it's called; I'm away from my iPad) will need to be moved out to another location in your file system.

And of course, anything that is only on the Home Page, and hasn't been saved outside that sandbox will need to be saved.

Thanx

Reinstalled already, but Ipad remembers where one of my user created directories is.

Want to open old file when I do so, it wont let me save it, but rather save as copy.

Overwriting the existing file? Dont trust it. Rename first.

Looking for Affinity Photo folder… not found!
Search for Affinity Ipad folder found located on My Ipad but not displayed in file manager.

Alpha listing of my Ipad doesnt show an Affinity Photo folder, but there are 2 displayed if I choose to move folder.

Time to restart

Restart no change, is this an option somewhere?

Check settings. May have defaulted to iCloud.

re having to Save a copy. iOS and affinity have an ‘unusual' relationship. Affinity creates a 'working' copy in Sandbox. This can be seen as the project  icon in the Home Screen. Until you tap Save, this is the only version. Save creates an external .afphoto version that is linked to the sandbox version but is a seperate file. Saving defaults to the ‘default' folder. Save a Copy creates an afphoto version in the folder of your choice, and lets you rename before saving. This copy is NOT linked to the sandbox. You can open the copy and it will create a new linked sandbox version. Certain actions can break the links between sandbox and external physical file. If this happens just reopen the physical file to create a new linked sandbox version. Autosave only updates sandbox version. You have to manually save to update the external 'physical' copy. Try it with a few coloured rectangles and you’ll soon see which changes are saved by which actions. It can be confusing and lead to lost edits if you don’t understand how it works.

Thanks thats how its supposed to work but doesnt. The default location to save files is “my ipad”

I have a file located in my working directory, edit and save. Look in file manager no recent save.
Looking in my Ipad no Affinity Photo folder.

Searching for file it is found in My Ipad, but that folder is not visible.

Couldnt see Affinity Photo folder on My Ipad, in file manager, but strangely was able to save a file to the Affinity Folder from within Affinity Photo, thats right. When saving a file the 2 folders were both visible, once they had a file in them they became visible. Was able to delete one of the folders but concerned that something is not right.

If I uninstall again should it delete the Affinity Photo Folder?

Deleting the app again the AP folder disappeared.

When the App is uninstalled the Affinity Photo Folder is also removed and will be recreated when you save a document on the iPad.

Thanks, but can you help us understand how we end up multiple Affinity Photo (as above) or, for me, multiple Affinity Designer folders?

What if the 1st document you save is NOT saved in default Affinity Photo folder?

Where are the sandbox or autosave saved?

They are in locations we cannot access, saved as part of the application's internal storage.

I'm not sure what you mean by "visible to iPad storage for AP app".

Just checked my Ipad storage for AP app, only see 2 files, which happen to be files (I dont care about) located in the Affinity Photo directory. I have all my working files outside of this directory, but must check it periodically to see if a save was placed there, which does seem to happen occasionally.

The files in the sandbox, and autosave files, are not visible to you anywhere except in the application Home Screen.

Visible to Ipad storage, I meant Ipad storage settings for AP list files and sizes associated by iPad to AP app.

I just checked mine only 2 files tied to app according to Ipad storage…….dont know for sure, but this appears to only be a listing of files saved within the Affinity Photo folder.

They certainly should count in file storage that AP is using, just as the space taken for the application code is counted there.

Ok that makes sense, probably only saves changes since last commit (save), so not a actually a file but list of changes waiting to be executed and saved.

After deleting all files listed within Ipad storage associated with Affinity Photo, the remaining size was still bigger than the base app alone, I put this down to assets and brushes et al which are not represented in the iPad settings app stats but truly hidden.

Have you had any beta installs? Maybe a leftover folder.

Good thought. I've had betas (still do, though expired) for both Photo and Designer.

I havent used any beta installs that I am aware of.
I assume beta installs require user intervention, havent owned AP long enough to know how beta handled, but must software upgrades require user intervention.
