Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Ricky.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "design studio", but you do not need to be online to use the Affinity applications, at least if you purchase directly from Serif. Of course, if you're not online you won't be able to use the application's built-in functions that

  • display offers about new items available from the Affinity Store, nor that
  • check for updates (or download/install them), nor that
  • automatically download/install Affinity Store content that has been given to you or that you've purchased, nor that
  • connect to and display free art that's available from several Stock agencies.
  • Edited to add: Watch Tutorials.

Nor will you be able to register the application to receive the free Affinity Store content that registration gives you.

But other than that the full application functionality should be usable.

Hi Walt

Thanks for the detailed response.  When I say "design studio" Im simply referring to Affinity itself.   Yes, I bought it directly from Serif.  I will be learning this software in an environment where the Wifi is great....Vancouver BC but will ultimately want to make money off it where the wifi is sketchy...non existent.....in my other home in rural Philippines.     I want to be able to drive into town 45 minutes away, in the Philippines, where the wifi is decent....do anything I need to do online...eg...email clients...etc...do a bit of work but to be able to also do most of the workflow offline (in my rural house) as I simply won't have any wifi.

Makes sense?  If so, how do I use Affinity offline?

Please advise.

Regards

Ricky

You just use it. It doesn't care if you're online or not, for functions other than those I mentioned. (And one I just added: watching tutorials.)

Why not just turn off your wi-fi and play with it?

Hi Walt

Thanks for getting back.  Sounds good.  I didn't know I could access it *unless* I had wifi.   Thanks for the help.

For future reference note that "Affinity" is the name of a suite of three different apps, Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, & Affinity Publisher. Each of them can be purchased & used independently of the others, although there are benefits if you buy all three of them.

To minimize the confusion about which one users might be talking about in these forums, there are abbreviations for each of them that automatically identify them if you use them. For example, when I type AD, AP, & APub in this reply, the underline is added automatically & if you hover the pointer over one of them the full name pops up, similar to a tooltip.

Thanks RC-R, good information.  Appreciate it.
