Hi, can you help me please? I am obviously new to affinity by asking a very simple question which does not seem to be covered in Tutorials. How can I change line type without affecting the previous draw line. Thank you

Hi,

Can you help me please?   I am obviously new to affinity by asking a very simple question which does not seem to be covered in Tutorials.

How can I change line type without affecting the previous draw line?

Thank you

If by line type you mean the stroke property that can be applied the the path of a vector-based object, to avoid changing it on an object you have previously drawn, make sure the previous one is not selected in the Layers panel.

If it is, when you change the stroke, the app assumes you want to apply it to the selected object.

Hi @Derek04,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums :)

After creating your stroke, hit the 'ESC' (Escape) key twice to deselect the object. Once you no longer have this stroke selected, you can change the stroke properties without affecting the previously drawn stroke.

I hope this helps!

If it is 'quick' shape (like a rectangle, star, or ellipse) hitting the ESC key once will deselect it. For any object you can also use the Select > Deselect menu item or its keyboard shortcut, or click on an empty spot on the Layers panel if it is open.
