Howie999 Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Hi, I was making some figures with letters to indicate the panels. However, I noticed the letters are always shift by two in orders (a to c, b to d, d to e etc.) and also overlap each other if placed in tandem (see below). The bugs seem to be specific to Affinity designer and Adobe illustrator doesn't create the same problems. Are these bugs known and is there a quick fix? Thanks a lot in advance. kenmcd Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Probably bad fonts with broken name fields. Where did you get them? Quote
Howie999 Posted March 4, 2022 Author Posted March 4, 2022 @LibreTraining Thanks for the suggestions! Quote Probably bad fonts with broken name fields. If it's a bad font file, then Illustrator should have the same problem? But it worked in illustrator. Quote Where did you get them? Tbh, it's been a while and I'm not sure. I seem to have two versions for the Helvetica bold face. Would you have a good source for the font by any chance? Maybe I can try getting rid of mine altogether and reinstalling it. Quote
kenmcd Posted March 4, 2022 Posted March 4, 2022 Those two fonts are in an old "collection" of converted Type 1 fonts. Many of the fonts are broken. And there are definitely name conflicts which can cause an issue like your issue above. Best to get a more current version which is actually created as an OpenType font with features. Re: Illustrator - Adopey apps are better at guessing what to do with broken fonts. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not. And Export to PDF may or may not work properly. Quote
Howie999 Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 Thank you for taking your time to look at this @LibreTraining, your comments are very helpful and they worked! I went ahead and checked the two fonts that I have again. The Apple version is TrueType font and the Abode one is OpenType font. So I deleted the apple version and now the characters export correctly to pdf. Dan C 1 Quote
