Undoing with the in painting brush

I just got this and already I'm ready to return it.  I tried out the in painting brush and in an attempt to undo it said that I had to first take a snapshot history . Well your search topics don't include snapshot history after some effort I found the history part but no snapshot history. So in frustration I deleted the photo and closed the program and then reopened it with the same photo and I was stuck in the same place of having to find the snapshot history in order to move on. Well I'm stuck now. I've been watching tutorials and like most complicated software i expect it to be harder than the teacher indicates but if you can't even find something in the help search then that makes it impossible to follow.  Please help.

I understand that I have a few days from the apple store to return this but I'd like to figure some things out.  I've used aperture for years as well as photoshop elements but this has things on there that thoroughly confuse me.

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

The tool you have been using is the Undo Brush Tool. I believe you wanted to use the Inpainting Brush Tool. To access it click the small arrow near the Healing Brush Tool (6th icon counting from bottom) to show a menu with more tools. The Inpainting Brush Tool is the second counting from bottom. To use it just paint over the element you want to remove from the image. To undo press ⌘ (cmd) + Z or go to menu Edit ▸ Undo. Here's a video tutorial that may help. To undo, just hit Cmd-Z (or Menu -> Edit -> Undo - same as all other apps..)

 

The undo brush is for "painting back" to an older state in the document - and in order to do that, you must tell it what state you want to paint back to. You choose this in the "History" panel down at the bottom right of the screen - there is a little camera icon by each row in there - and if you click one it will light up. The undo brush paints back to whichever of these is lit up..

Thanks Meb that video was helpful.  My problem was not with the undo. I know how to undo. It wasn't letting me undo. I was getting an error message about it. It isn't happening now so I'll let it go for now.
