SVG export issue??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Using Designer 1.10.4.1198. I'm trying to produce a schematic for someone to use in Serif PagePlus, exported as an svg image.  I've attached the relevant Designer file.

I produced a relatively simple schematic using Designer. Everything looks ok, and the diagram exports fine as a jpeg. Try to export as an svg and various things happen depending on the software it is viewed in:

Serif PagePlus: the vertical line labelled B disappears completely.

When viewed in Microsoft Edge, there is a a black band across the svg image the same height as the line which disappears.

Just get a completely black rectangle when using the svg image in Affinity Publisher.

I imported  and used an image drawn originally drawn in Serif DrawPlus as a guide at the start; but the drawing was produced on separate layers and this initial image has been deleted. This was some time ago though, and I can't remember what type of file I used. I had to scrap the first version as it misbehaved. Started again, and copied and pasted the new image across to the new Designer file. Everything looked fine initially, but coming back to it again today, I'm experiencing all the above.

I'm certainly not an expert with the Designer software, so it could potentially be something I've done, though I've not experienced a similar problem before. If it isn't  bug with the export, is there any way I can avoid this happening in the future?

Many thanks.

Perhaps you need to use more modern viewers for SVG. Firefox, Chrome, Brave browser and Inkscape display my exported SVG file correctly.

This SVG import also correctly in AD or APub.

Can you provide the file you exported? And a screenshot of the preset use to export it?

Not until tomorrow at the earliest, but I use standard presets for setting up documents and exporting.

Besides which, why do I get a black rectangle when I try to place the SVG image in a document in the latest version of Publisher? For my own work, I don't need to export as SVG. But I tested this as I occasionally have to export to provide images to others.

This particular image needs to work in PagePlus, because that is the software currently being used by the client. I'd love to get them to update to Publisher; but I've had to accept that it isn't going to happen.

I can explore other web SVG viewers when I have time, but It won't solve the issue I have of needing a working SVG export.

Can you provide a sample document? Did you check you don't have a black background set by default or similar? I don't have any problem importing or placing SVG/AD files in APub documents.

And the SVG don't have any background, so the problem is perhaps not with the SVG file.

The Capture file attached is what I get when I try to view the exported file in Firefox using the standard preset SVG (for export).

I've play around a little more. If I use SVG (digital - high quality) to export, then the image is fine whether used in Publisher, PagePlus, Chrome or Firefox.

So I think the issue may be with the SVG (for export) preset.

I've also attached the exported svg file

Hi Kazr,

Please could you try going to File > Export select SVG and then hit more and in the export settings menu enable flatten transforms. This should stop the black box appearing.

Thanks

Thanks @Callum and @Wosven - your input is much appreciated.

Yes, the Flatten SVG preset seems to resolve the issue too.

Those really wide strokes aren't in the original, or in the SVGs I've exported using other presets; though it looks like something is being distorted when I use the export preset. The diagram is fairly simple, and I can't see anything that shouldn't be there in the original file. It is possible I've managed to accidentally change something when I was making the image and cause an issue, but so long as I can get a usable svg image, I'm happy.
