First text frame of placed text needs repositioning

Hi,

1. when I place text, the center of the first text frame is positioned on the place where I click with the mouse. IMO it must resize automatiaclly to fit the margins;
2. I can't find the rotation center neither inside the text frame, nor on the Control bar.

To 2.: I might misunderstand your "rotation center" as the page or margin center, so just in case: With guides accordingly set in the Snapping Option you get the page and margin guides occurring for the "Place" cursor. This guide occurrence is independent of your current setting for "Show Guides" in the View menu and also for "Preview Mode" in APub.

To 1.: If you are missing a way to click-place a text (or image) with new object creation (= not inside an existing frame) and without the need to drag or resize manually then there is an according feature request already where you might want to place a vote or comment:

I am guessing that when you "place text" you mean you are using the menu File > Place... and that you are choosing a Text File to place. The best way to work is to draw a text frame to hold the text first and then place the text in that. In fact the better way to work if you are placing a file that will take up several pages is to use linked Text Frames on a Master Page and then use those on the Actual page to place the text.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but I want to use already implemented feature in Publisher -- click anywhere on the page and a text frame appers. The problem is the size of the frame is the same from the original document (I think) and it is not resized to the column or page margins.

Yes, I think it is the same as in the original document.

Text frames are never resized to fit the margins. Margins and text frames are completely independent of each other.

It would be nice if they are for the first (imported) text frame, by default as they are resized on the other pages when you SHIFT click on the red triangle.

In my experience Shift+Click on the linking triangle provides exact duplicates of the current page, with the overflow text flowed through them. The Text Frames on those pages should match the Text Frame on the original page.

What if a document has no page dimensions, for instance a .TXT file?

A. When click-placing a .txt file on a master spread then the auto-created text frame appears to have the page width + its height related to the amount of text:

B. Whereas if the same .txt file gets click-placed on a single document page the text frame appears to get auto-created in 1/2 of the page width and height, maintaining the aspect ratio of the page, which causes for the identical amount of text a text overflow:

In the samples above the place cursor was positioned on the upper left corner of the page margin, causing the according guides to appear. That might indicate that the created text frame would respect the margin + would get ideally created in the margins dimension. Obviously it does not but ignores the margin and checks the page dimensions instead, which actually is not really useful in such a situation.

So, instead checking page dimensions APub could check + respect rather the margins for the auto-created text frame. Same amount of work for the app, just different x / y parameters.

The samples also illustrate the oddity of the position of the placing cursor in relation to the placed object for click-placing: Affinity uses the object's center for the cursor position. At least in an LTR system & design process the user could prefer & expect rather the top left corner of the text frame as the place-cursor position. Especially since in Affinity the place-cursor does not display a preview of the object to place, neither in its aspect ratio nor its placed size.
