question about freehand selection tool in Affinity Photo for iPad

Recommended Posts

Hi, can somebody tell me how to do the following in Affinity Photo for iPad: On the desktop version I frequently use the freehand selection tool to select part of a raster layer, then I subsequently copy and paste the selected area so part of the image will be on a new layer. I use CTRL + C & CTRL + V for the copying and for creating a new layer in the desktop version. How can I do this in Affinity Photo for iPad? Thank you in advance, not being able to find this feature is driving me nuts.

Hi,

you need to switch between Photo Persona and Selection Persona.

There you can find the tools.

selection Persona:

when you long press , a context menu will show allowing to copy/paste, but only in photo persona.

You can deselect, too.

You can pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the iPad and use the normal keyboard shortcuts to simplify your live.

Make sure your selected layer is a Pixel layer, rasterise it if needed then switch from Selection Persona to Photo Persona on the Persona Toolbar at the top then use Commands -> Duplicate Selection if you do not have a keyboard attached. If you do have an external keyboard attached use CTRL+C, CTRL+V as per desktop.
