making technical drawings

Recommended Posts

After some Windows 10 updates, The CAD I've used for many years stopped working.

I tried LibreCad but didn't take to it for some reason. After trying the free version of QCAD, I splashed out £36 (including VAT) for the full version.

I haven't used it much and there is a bit of a learning curve. That said, it seems to think for you and for someone using it regularly, I suspect it would soon be easy to use.

One of the first things I did was that below. Exported to SVG from QCAD and opened in Designer.

I think it is particularly designed for people who have only casual CAD drawing needs (like me) but what it does, it does competently and user-friendly, and the paid version allows exports to SVG and PDF. There is a low cost (at the moment EUR 14) PDF tutorial available which makes a good introduction to the app. The app is updated frequently and available for both legacy and modern OSs (OS X Lion to macOS Monterey M1, Windows XP 32/64bit to Pro 11, Linux 32/64/Qt) at the same price, and it is a perpetual license (with free updates during one year).

Have you considered Sketchup free ...

As I understand it, like the old free app version, the free online version does not support exporting to a vector format like SVG Affinity can use.

That may or may not be important for the OP or others.
