TGronau
Hello, just bought the theme. How can I transform a normal jpeg to a vector graphic? cheers, Tom
Staff TonyB Posted October 5, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 5, 2014 We don't have a vector trace feature at the moment. We may add convert pixel selection to vector soon but a full on trace feature is a long way off.

psaldari
Anybody out there have a trace program they would recommend? Something basic to work with black and white jpegs. You can test: DragPotrace (free): http://www.hi-ho.ne.jp/sato-akira/dragpotrace/ Super Vectorizer (Mac App Store) Image Vectorizer (Mac App Store) Paolo
Eelco Deuling
…Inkscape has a GUI version based on Potrace built-in (free but a bit annoying).
Staff TonyB Posted October 6, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 6, 2014 Vector Magic is the only trace app I would actually recommend, all the other apps are very disappointing in my opinion. It is truly amazing.

It is truly amazing. OK, Vector Magic is the best, but it is really expensive ($ 295.00) and not receiving updates from 2011...
Staff TonyB Posted October 6, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 6, 2014 The problem is I find it quicker to actually draw over an image myself than to edit the terrible results from most tracing software. This isn't true of Vector Magic as the results are just amazing. If the Affinity team releases an auto-trace persona then it will have to approach the quality of Vector Magic or I'm just not interested. If I could buy the Vector Magic company then I would. Staff Andy Somerfield Posted October 6, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 6, 2014 Agreed - Vector Magic is very special.. if we can't get close to that, we shouldn't really claim we have trace capability.. AndyS
rui_mac
Do you have Photoshop? If the JPEGs are simple black & white, just load one of the channels (not the blue one... it usually has more noise) as a selection. Invert the selection and then, in the Paths floater, Make a New Path. It will trace the selection. Then, double click the new path and give it a name. Now, Export -> Paths to Illustrator. And then choose the path you created. It is saved as an AI file and take care that usually the stroke is set to None. So, if you open the AI file, you see nothing. Select All and give it a stroke. peter

RPJ
As a long time Serif Draw user I am used to having trace built into my vector graphics package. Any plans to include trace in AD in the future? Cheers. RPJ Quote Better Than Nothing - Just
Staff TonyB Posted October 12, 2014 Staff Share Posted October 12, 2014 Auto-trace done well takes a long time and will require massive investment from us. We will share our plans as we get closer to a solution.
