Watching tutorials for this, i dont see any colorize options, er simple ones.  Take the image you are working on, and click colorize or something, and have sliders to change for color, brightness, etc.

It seems from what i have watched you have to do it the 'longhand' way, make the color you want then use it, sorry not sure how to say that.

Hi @ahnay,

While we don't have a colorize option, we do have some basic Live Adjustment Layers on Layer>New Live Adjustment Layer for altering things like brightness and contrast and a Recolour Adjustment which you can use to change the colour of something.

One thing I use a lot is a Shape (Rectangle) with a colour and have its blend option set to Colour.1706689500_ScreenShot2022-02-16at10_51_30AM.png.e98ee7b47826951514e6ad896e5f43b4.png

Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Thanks! I had not considered doing that but it works well, plus by changing the opacity of the blended rectangle, I can easily adjust the intensity of the color, & the whole thing is non-destructive so I can play around with it without having to commit to any particular values.

For example color blend & transparency.afdesign

you know what? i cant get any of them to work today?, i may not have tried them last night, i was tired.  But today i tried many of them, and even though i move the sliders, nothing happens at all? i mean, i feel like i must be crazy.  I tried to find a video explaining how to use them, found one, and tried it, did what he said and still nothing happens? Yeah, im so frustrated today, ive take the image back into gimp to color it.  Gimp takes forever to load, lol, and often fails. i dont know.  if you know of any vids showing how to use it from the moment you bring a .jpg or similar in, please post a link. thank you

Are you trying to colourize a Black or a White object? There is no place in White or Black for the colour to show.

If you have a black object on a white background and you cover it with a coloured rectangle, setting the rectangle’s Layer Blend Mode to ‘Screen’ will change the black areas to the colour of the rectangle while leaving the background white. If the object is white and the background is black, setting the rectangle’s Layer Blend Mode to ‘Multiply’ will change the white areas to the colour of the rectangle while leaving the background black.

Seems to be working OK for me using Recolor adjustment layers. In this recolored adj.afdesign file I have 3 of them nested in the Pixel layer, all currently set to invisible. Try turning them on one at a time & see what you get.
