Emar Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Hi, I'm having problems trying to colourise a photo. The Control I isn't working properly and no matter what colour I pick it just paints a Brown! Everything was working fine until recently. I've even deleted my original download of Photo a downloaded a new one but it's still the same. Is it possible to set the Photo app to default setting? Quote

What actually happens? 14 minutes ago, Emar said: Is it possible to set the Photo app to default setting? Press the Ctrl key and keep it held down while you launch the app. If you continue to hold it down, the ‘Clear User Data’ dialog should appear, at which point you can release the key. The default state of the dialog has the first three options checked. If pressing ‘Clear’ with only those options doesn’t fix the problem, you can do a factory reset by going through the same steps but pressing ‘Select All’ before you press ‘Clear’. Please note that you will lose any custom brushes, macros, palettes, etc, that you haven’t backed up. walt.farrell Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I don't think resetting the application will help. What do you think Ctrl+I should do? Exactly how are you trying to use it? If you can provide more information on your workflow we can probably point out what's happening. Emar Posted February 14, 2022 Author Posted February 14, 2022 Hi Walt, It's weird, I've been colourising different pics for some time now but never had this happen before. When I pick any colour to paint in, it seems to be sticking to one colour, a shade of brown. Plus the Crtl+I seems to be working in reverse! I really can't say any more about it. Thanks. Quote

I don't understand how Ctrl+I is at all relevant to painting. That's part of my problem. As for it always painting in brown, some screenshots of the complete application workspace would help, including the Layers panel so we can see what kind of layer you're working with, and the Tools (on the left) so we can see what Tool you're working with (hint: perhaps it's not the Paint Brush Tool). Wosven Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 Ctrl+i will usually "invert" the colours. It's like a negative effect, or use to invert a mask. I'm not sure why you use it while painting. Shouldn't you simply use "I" if needing the colour picker? Or Alt to pick the colour below the cursor? Quote

It inverts the layer, which would include doing something (presumably some kind of inverting) to any colors that already exist on the layer. It won't affect the actual color that is being used, and any painting done on the inverted layer will use the color shown in the Color panel. Wosven Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 It's what we call in other app "negative", it'll invert the channels (the same way as it invert a mask: black become white, and white black) and the result look like a photo negative. Quote

Please explain how specifically you are picking the color to paint with. Note that in AP there is a Color Picker Tool with several options, plus the drag-and-drop eyedropper that appears in among other places at the top of the Color panel. Which one are you using?
