Default placement not working on Mask creation

Recommended Posts

When I create a Mask in AffinityPhoto it does not place the mask inside the highlighted layer.  Instead the mask it created as a new layer above the intended layer.  I've watched many of the training videos you offer and I can see the instructor hit the mask button and it pops nicely into the highlighted layer.  The instruction manual also says that by default a mask will be created inside the highlighted layer.  I cringe every time I have to drag a mask into it's intended layer, i use a lot of masks!  Is there a setting somewhere that I have inadvertently turned off or something.  I've searched everywhere and can't find anything on this problem.

Can anyone help before I pull all my hair out

Your preferred setting in the Assistant Manager determines where the mask layer is added

You can change it there

If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

I turned the assistant off when it kept rasterising layers I didn’t want rasterized.

You probably already know this but there are three places in the assistant where you can disable rasterizing vector layers without disabling the assistant itself.

Yes, thanx, I figured that out. I haven’t use affinity in quite a while. There was nothing called “assistant” the last time I seriously used it. I though it was just annoying so I turn it off without really looking at it. Note to self: read the fine print.

Actually, I am pretty sure it was there in the first commercial version, or maybe added in the second, but maybe not all the options were added until later?
