Can you please confirm for me, are you using Affinity on Windows or Mac? Are you seeing any error message or crash report on screen? Are you able to open the app and navigate to Edit/Affinity Photo (Windows/Mac respectively) > Preferences > Performance , then provide a screenshot of your settings here for me?
