I am using the trial of affinity and overall am liking it, I want to get away from photoshops monthly fees.

My main question and concern has to do with future use, are there updates and upgrades you have to purchase to continue to use the product and keep it running?

I won't mention names but I had a program to use windows on my mac and constantly there was a "new" version and we HAD to pay to keep the program working as the old version was suddenly incompatible, I think after about 3 rounds of that I gave up and uninstalled it.

Just looking to save a bit over adobes monthly fees, and affinity seems to fit the need so far, just don't want to buy into something that will require multiple future update and upgrade requirements to continue using it.

Hello @BillAand welcome to the forum.

Affinity issues regular free updates for its three apps. When you open the App, it checks if an update is available and downloads it should you opt for this. We are currently on version 1 of all three apps and there is rumored to be a version 2 in the offing (Serif never say when until it is ready). The new version will be paid for, but you will still be able to  use the version 1 apps should you choose not to upgrade.

Are you saying that if I purchase the current version, when version 2 comes out I will have to pay again in order to "upgrade"?

@theLapisFox

Yes, that's right. But Serif will certainly be accommodating here if the purchase of the previous version was only a few weeks or a few months ago.
