Affinity Photo (v1.10.4.1198) continously crashes when trying to stack Astro images with correction data (Bias, Flat, Dark...)

Recommended Posts

Since a couple of days Affinity Photo keeps crashing when I try to staple different data for Astrophotography.

I had to experience many crashes of the SW before (just as being mentioned in other bug reports), but now the stacking process keeps crashing in 100% of tries. Sometimes the SW closes itself without any notification.

I already tried different graphic card modes etc without success.

Once I also found out that the correction data (e.g. Flats) did not fit to the lightframes, but instead of checking and report that as an erroro upfront it again just decided to crash.

If Affinity photo really wants to become a serious photoshop alternative you really have to improve the stability and error management of your SW.

Right now its really unusable and annoying. Even if it does work (for single image processing) the display is really slow.

Hi Martin94b,
Welcome to the forums :)

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues Astro Stacking in Affinity.
When you say you tried the different graphic card modes please could you tell me what it was you tried? Have you tried disabling Open CL etc?

Thanks
C

Similar issue here, using v. 1.10.5.1342 on Windows 10.

Add jpg lights to new Astro stack, and click Apply.  Affinity flickers briefly then displays the checkerboard pattern in place of an image.  Had success with this feature a few minor releases back, but this behaviour is now consistent.  No progress bars appear; it just flips to the checkerboard.  Recent Windows updates are my #1 suspect, but perhaps Serif or some power users can offer some insights?

Thanks,
