augustya Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 I have just made a Curves Adjustment Preset on the Desktop APP of Affinity Photo. Can the same Preset be exported/transferred to the iPad APP to use ? Or Will Have to create a new Preset in the iPad APP ? Quote
R C-R Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 AFAIK, it can't be exported but as a (clumsy!) workaround, you can try adding your Curves Adjustment Preset to a document (a simple 1 layer pixel image will do), saving that to iCloud (or wherever else you can save afphoto files & access them on your iPad), open the file on the iPad, select the Curves Adjustment layer, tap the Curves icon to bring up the Curves menu, & tap that menu's Add Preset button, to add the preset to the iPad. It won't have a name so you will have to add that. walt.farrell, augustya and Alfred 2 1 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7

TBH, I don't use AP on my iPad much & it took me much longer than it should have to figure out how to make that work! For me, the thing I kept missing was the Curves icon at the bottom of the tools strip, used to open the Curves menu. I much prefer working with the desktop apps, but since my only Macs that will run Affinity are all iMacs, the iPad is my only portable choice. Just wanted to report back, yes your suggestion, trick worked. But there is one problem, now that since it has added a Preset to the Affinity Photo APP on my iPad, even when I want to use a Normal Curves Adjustment Layer it opens with that Preset. I want to have a situation where I can decide and get to choose if in a particular Project I want to use that Preset or I want to use a New Normal Curves Adjustment. Why cannot I open a Normal Curves Adjustment Layer without the Preset ? Will it every time open only with that preset ? Quote

Is it different than the desktop? If not, there should be a preset named Default. Just select it. From your description, it seems that in the iPad, the adjustments act like there's a sticky. In other words, the last setting used, will remain until changed by you. This doesn't happen on my Windows Desktop. So if that's what's happening, just click on the Default preset, and if it is remembering the last used preset, it should provide the default to start with. To see the other Presets, before clicking on one click the word Adjustments. Choose a category from the pull-down list. Or scroll right or left on the word Adjustments, which will show you the categories one at a time. (Can't give screenshots right now; I'm on my PC, and the iPad isn't nearby.) If at the top it shows only "< Curves >" & indented below that your named preset(s), then tap on "< Curves >" to open the column of Adjustment types to the left of the studio. In the column of adjustment types tap on "Adjustments," if necessary scrolling up or down in the column to locate it; OR tap on < or > to scroll through the adjustment types until it shows "Adjustments." At this point, the Adjustments Studio should be showing a list of all the adjustment types below the "< Adjustments >" header (so no column to the left of it). Now, if you tap on "Curves" in that list, it should apply the default curves adjustment, not any of the presets. As best as I can tell, this is how it works for all the adjustment types: when the Adjustments Studio shows "< Adjustments >" at the top, the default for each adjustment type will be applied if you tap on its name in the list of adjustment types. To get to any custom presets you have to open the column on the left & find the adjustment type in that column, & tap on it. If you see in here when I go to the Adjustment Studio and Click on Curves it only give me an option of applying the Preset that I have created and it does not let me use the default curves adjustment. walt.farrell Posted January 23, 2022 Posted January 23, 2022 Thanks for the video, @augustya. That's a different situation than I though you were describing. When you click on the Adjustments header, get the pull-down, and choose a category, you switch to that adjustment category. At that point you see the list of Presets that are defined. So, for example, for Black and White you'll see Cold and Warm Presets, and any you've added. Curves does not have any default Presets defined, so if you select Curves you'll only see Presets that you're defined. If you want, instead, a "default" Curves adjustment, pick Adjustments in the header (not one of the specific categories, and from the list of preview images shown pick Curves. Although that preview image will look like it has a curve applied, for me it will apply a default Curves adjustment layer with a straight spline rather than the spline from the preview image. I tried doing that also like you say I selected Curves from the Top Header which says Adjustments and when I was in curves unless and untilI tapped on the Preset of the Curves I had created. The Curves Adjustment was not even getting applied to my Layers Studio. So It was either have the Preset or not have the Curves adjustment applied at all to my Project. Quote

No, don;'t select Curves in the Header. Leave the Header set to Adjustments, then tap whatever preview is showing for Curves in the list of Preview images below it. That will give you a default (unadjusted) adjustment layer. augustya 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU.
