Please Help with PSD file

Hello, I am quite the beginner and have purchased this program to do one thing. I have a smart template from PS that manipulates an image. I have attached the file. Basically you should be able to drop a photo into the image at the upper left corner and then it will split that image up as seen in the rest of the template. I know I show the layers and then click in the layer that corresponds to the image in the upper left corner but I don’t know how to replace the current image with a new one. I can embed a photo from my photos but it just shows up as another photo layer and does not replace the image that is there. I got this to work once by accident to I know the template works. I would a really appreciate the help in getting a new image into this template. I am not a computer whiz and this is all I do with the program. Thank you

Open the psd using import file. Once opened double tap the top layer labelled embedded document. This opens the 'embedded' document. Use Command menu/Place image and navigate to desired image. Tap screen to place image inside the embedded document. Position as desired (I just let it cover the males image), then use the backspace arrow (top left corner). This closes the embedded document and you should now have your new image displayed.

Yes this works for me from a PSD import, however I have seen it not working as well.

In trying to find out why it sometimes doesn’t work, I found that saving it as an .aftemplate seems to stop part of this working, anyone know why?
