Hello Affnity community,

I am new to AD and try to export a vector graphic with color gradients to PDF. I realized that elliptic color gradients are exported correctly while radial color gradients are not. I tried various export options and could only achieve a correct export after rasterizing the objects which in turn reduces the image resolution.. What am I missing? Is there an option during export which I need to enable/disable?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Shamoon. :)

If elliptical gradients work correctly for you but radial gradients don’t, why not simply use elliptical gradients throughout? :/

Hey Alfred,

Thank you for your reply 🙂 Yes, sure, that solution works charmingly well, but why should radial gradients cause a problem during export. I am asking because I want to be sure not to miss something important since I have just started learning the software.

You made an Ellipse shape with a Radial Gradient, then you changed the shape of the ellipse and that distorted the Radial Gradient. For what ever reason the distortion is not exported.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Hi @Shamoon,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & thanks for your report!

I can confirm that I've been able to replicate this issue with your document and therefore I'm getting this logged with our developers now.

I'm not 100% certain if the PDF specification supports this type of scale/shearing on gradients, so this may be the reason why the PDF is being exported in this way currently - however I do believe that Affinity could improve this behaviour (for example rasterising the gradient) so that it appears exactly as it does within the Affinity app, when exported.

I hope this helps :)
