Hello,

I found a rather frustrating bug with Affinity Photo (or its Personas) and the Live Perspective Filter Layer.
In general, this live filter functions as promised. However, as soon as I make a copy of a group that contains one of those layers, it all gets a little bit tricky and weird.

So, the following happens:

  1. The perspective layer on the ORIGINAL works as intended.
  2. As I move the ORIGINAL, eveything still works.
  3. If I now copy the ORIGINAL, the COPY has the wrong perspecitve. It seems like the position of the perspective rectangle (see image) moves differently.

Another and more anyoing bug happens while reloading a file. This destroyed some work I made yesterday.

  1. I use the live layer on any object.
  2. I copy it one time and move it afterwards (everything still works).
  3. I copy this copy again and the same problem as described as above happened.
  4. However, If I now close and reopen the file, the first copy (at step 2) is also broken now.

I deliberatly wanted to use the live layer since some global values like the color of strokes and fillings or the content of text are not yet fixed. So, I cannot use the perspective tool until then. So, I have now several questions:

  • Did I something wrong?
  • How to solve this bug?
  • Would it be possible to apply the same perspective distortion (so the square where can I input the perspective change) to other objects without the "global" position of this square?

Kind regards,
Marc

Still an issue, I use this tool intensively but sooner or later it is impossible to copy the layer with the perspective filter.

I isolated one of my documents with this issue and it isn't even related to a group necessarily. Just try to copy this layer and you'll see what goes wrong. If I create a brand new rectangle and apply a perspective filter to that, it works fine. But the filter layer contains the copy bug used to contain a lot more content and it's beyond repair now. I even tried to save a duplicate version of the file and copy/paste layers between documents but the issue remains.

BTW I'm on a Mac.

After initial testing, the bug in the perspective tool is fixed, this also applies to the current customer version👍👍

It only works as long as the object you are applying the perspective is not a child layer of any other object.

If you do the same thing on an artboard, it will not work.  Or if placed in a group.

I have checked the perspectives tool again, also according to the recipe described above.
It works for me, for whatever reason.

I looked at your files.  So I was wrong about the group.  It must be a child of some object.  So instead of the group, place them inside a rectangle or something.

I do all of my work on Artboards.  In that case, they are always broken.

You could also go to the issue I linked above.  I have an example file there you can open and duplicate the items.

Hello @CM0 ,
for me the Persektive tool works because I had similar mistakes as Marx S. and ZufDraw, and these seem to be fixed.
But there are problems with the file you provided,
I have tried to rebuild the file without success.
Unfortunately I can't use the perspective tool like you so that there is a kinked rectangle.
Unless I create a selection that serves as a mask.
How did you do it?

Cheers

Unfortunately, none of the live filters are fixed for any of my use cases.  All of my projects are still broken 😞

Note, once you have a filter that is attached to an item within another object, it will always be broken.  So even if you later move it out to be a top level item, you can no longer duplicate it as you did before.

The perspective live filter performs differently based on whether the live filter mask is attached as a clipping or masking layer.  Looks like I did those as clipping child layers.

However, the problem manifests irregardless of either method.
