Good afternoon,

My first visit as I have moved across to Affinity, I recognise some names here.
I am having trouble with "Photo", I changed the opacity of an image but there
is a chequerboard showing through, which is spoiling the effect, I have spent
some time trying to fix this, but so far no luck, the help doesn't recognise my
dilemma the "Canvass", is not listed, at least I can't find it.

Any help will be appreciated, thank you.

Also why is there no back arrow to correct mistakes in any Affinity programme?

I am using Windows 10 latest version on a desktop computer, My affinity is also
the latest version.

Mike.

In the Document menu you'll find a Transparent Background setting. You have it enabled, so just turn it off.

Because Serif has never implemented one for the Affinity applications. You can use Ctrl+Z or Edit > Undo or the History panel, instead.

Hi and welcome!

The chequerboard indicates the transparency, the clearer it shows up the more transparency (dependent on 0% - 100%). - If the chequerboard bothers you, place some filled color rect below your image which you can enable/disable to display on demand. The clearer the initial filled colored rect is visiable (shines through) the more transparency you've applied to the image layer.

Use the "Edit -> Undo" menu entry or even better the Ctrl-z/Cmd-z shortcut whenever you want to undo a made step!
