Node tool permanently switches to text tool when editing/ selecting text

The Node tool switches to the text tool after (double) clicking on text to edit, whether in a group or top-level object.

This is also the case when selecting text by double clicking to expand the group. This may seem obvious at first, but when I edit CAD exports (PDFs) you'll often find text to be grouped with text frames and/ or multileaders. If I want to remove those, double clicking on the text and the change to the node tool make this work more tedious than it should be.

Expectation

I manually switched back to the node tool at the end of the second video, which is what I would expect Designer to do after finishing editing the text.

When I have the Node tool active, I expect to continue working with nodes. If I want to work with text, I activate the text tool. So the tool shouldn't be changing permanently unless I activate it.

Thanks for your report!

I can confirm that this is By Design, when selecting a Text object in Affinity the Text tool will always be activated, as if it was not and the user began typing, they would invoke multiple keyboard shortcuts without meaning to.

I can appreciate why for your workflow it would help to not switch to the text tool, so perhaps this would be implemented as a preference option for such documents.

I'll move this thread to the Feedback section for our devs to see and consider for a future update

@Dan C Just to clarify, it is okay that the text tool is activated when text is selected (on the canvas), the thing is though as soon the text is deselected, the previously active tool, (the move/ node tool) should remain active. So I can continue selecting. I don't want to continue with typing, because then I would activate the text tool to create new text objects. A bit of a weird design here then 😉
