Hi,

My name is Gordon and I have moved away from Adobe to Affinity. I created a rectangle and tried to fill it.  Nothing shows. I searched the help and tutorials, which pointed me to the Appearance panel. However, I cannot find the appearance panel. Very frustrating. Can anybody tell me how to find the Appearance panel?

Welcome to the Forums!  The Appearance Panel can be added to your desktop in Designer by clicking on VIEW>STUDIO>and adding a check mark in front of Appearance Panel.  It should then be added as a tab in your right Studio.  I hope this will help as you manoeuver your way with all of Designer’s possibilities!

I have to assume you are using Affinity Designer because you have mentioned looking for the Appearance Panel. It should be in the menu View > Studio > Appearance. If it is not there then you may be in Affinity Designer's Export Persona or you may be using Publisher or Photo.

You do not need to use the Appearance panel to change the colour of the rectangle you drew with, and this is an assumption on my part again, the Shapes Tool from Affinity Designer. You can use the Colour Panel from the View > Studio > Colour once the Rectangle is selected.

Affinity Designer 2.3.1 | Affinity Photo 2.3.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.3.1 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, Gordon. :)

Which Affinity app(s) do you have? The Appearance panel is a feature of Affinity Designer, and its primary focus is the application of multiple strokes.

In both Designer and Photo you can use the swatches at the top left of the Colour panel to apply different fill and stroke colours to vector shapes. There are also fill and stroke controls on the Context toolbar when a vector shape is selected.
