Welcome to the forums herr.rehkopf :)

It's possible following these steps:

1. Create a new Pixel Layer from Layer > New Layer

2. Go to Edit > Fill... and select 50% grey from the Custom Colour option

3. Set this new grey layer to use the Overlay Blend Mode

With the grey layer selected use the Dodge and Burn tools :)

In the next Affinity Photo update you can set a custom keyboard shortcut for a 50% grey fill which should make life easier!

Thank you for the reply, Leigh.

But that is unfortunately no solution for my problem, I guess.

Maybe I expressed myself wrong:

I want to modify layer-masks (alpha) with the dodge- and burn-tools.

In Photoshop I use this technique to fine-tune the masks – especially by hair.

But there is no effect, when I tried it in Affinity Photo.

Is it possible to dodge/burn masks in Affinity Photo? I've tried it several times with different documents, but with no result … my fault?

Greets, Tobi.

Here's a previous link I posted. Maybe my technique will work for now. It's in the original post on this page:
