Fill Tool please with numeric input!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

before I post this in feedback/suggestions I want to know if there is a good workaround for the problem...  I work with unwrapped 3D items, so I have a 2D net in Designer. Now I have to fill the net with different fill pattern. Later on the 2d will be printed out, cut and glued to a paper model as result.

When placing a bitmap fill into a form it is possible to rotate, scale and position the fill with the mouse - which is not precisely as needed when working on angled shapes (back in 3d / the papermodel the shapes result in a conic form, so the pattern has to be precise to give the model the right look) . Here I need a a numeric input field where I can type to rotate by "60°" for example.

Snapping to something isn't helpful - it doesn't work in this case.

I would like to read some suggestions and hints on that point. Thanks in advance,

Paul

You can type in the values directly into the transform panel (-> View -> Studio -> Transform).

Andy05: That is true for rotating a layer but I think the OP is asking to be able to rotate the Bitmap Fill which has been applied to a layer by a specific numerical value, which I don’t think is possible without a ‘workaround’ such as clipping another layer inside the original and then adding the bitmap fill to the new layer and rotating that.

Not even if you activate the grid set to 60 degrees?

The bitmap handles/lines snap to that

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Oops, you're right! I could have sworn, that I've seen the option to enter the values into the transform panel for bitmap fills (I have to admit, I rarely use them). Must have been in a different software. Could be an interesting feature request for AD, tho.

EDIT: CorelDRAW (SE version from 2018) can do it, probably earlier versions could do it, too. So maybe that's where I've seen it.

It seems that this has already been requested (for Photo): https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/79584-fill-layer-using-bitmap-ui-options/

Ah, great! Requested in 2019, so we can hope for Serif implementing it in Version 4 (year 2035ish)
