Wrong position when pasting an element on an artboard

When copy an element from the Artboard1 and paste to Artboard2, if the view area is not on the Artboard2 is not setting the positions correctly.

It looks like copied elements are placed properly only when the artboard is in focus. As soon as the artboard in question is outside, the elements are pasted centered in the visible area.

I don't know if this is intentional, but it seems to make some sense. Just out of curiosity: Why are you inserting something in a place you can't see?

I don't see why it would be

If Artboard2 is selected the object should be pasted to Artboard2 at the correct x,y coordinates whether Artboard2 is visible in the working area or not

Looks like a bug or at the very least an improvement request if it turns out to be "By Design"

This behaviour during standard insertion is not unusual. For congruent pasting, however, there should be an additional specialised command (for example, "paste to original position"). Unfortunately, there is no such command yet - neither in Affinity Designer nor in Affinity Publisher.

No Paste Replace command and no Paste 'here' command with a Control / Right Click context menu command. Those are two things I would like to see added.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

I have created an Symbol and I want to pase it to all Artboards.
All artboards has different background, but will share the same Symbol (Icon) that I made.

The normal behaviour would be to paste it the same on the Artboard if is in focus or not. At least should paste it in the at x0, y0.

I think this is weird behaviour because was not implemented property the paste to be allowed on multiple Artboard, Groups, Layers, etc.

Until there is a better way, I suggest the following workaround:

  1. Copy the icon you have already pasted on an artboard (Ctrl+C).
  2. Zoom out the workspace until you see all the artboards at once (Ctrl+Scroll wheel).
  3. Select each artboard in turn (click on the artboard name) and paste the copied symbol in each case (Ctrl+V).
  4. Then double-click the thumbnail of an artboard layer in the Layers panel to return its contents to normal size.

Or use Command/Control 0 (zero).

Hi @AndRo Marian,

This is actually by design and from speaking with the QA team, this behaviour changed a number of builds back, roughly around 1.6 due to a number of complaints from users pasting something and then not being able to find i once pasted.  The change was if an object was to be pasted outside the view area then instead it is pasted to the centre of the screen.

As you can see from other replies here, this isn't an ideal situation for everyone.  However as artboard two is selected, it would make sense to paste it on the artboard.  So i agree with @carl123on this and will log an improvement to see if we get a change to the behaviour when an artboard is selected and not in view :)

Would be nice an option on settings to change to old behaviour.
And not only for Artboards, for inside too.

I see already a feature for finding it with double click on the layer preview.

Other thing that I see annoying is if the pixel perfect is selected the paste of repositioning is not pixel perfect.

Other weird behaviour is when copy from other document on the new document.
I think is related to this as well.
Should be positioned at x0 y0 and not outside the artboard.
