Ociel
Hello, is it possible to disable spell checking for citations? When I write something like Quote "some text that shouldn't be checked" I don't want that the content between the quotation marks will be checked. One possible way would be to use a text-style, but that would be very uncomfortable because I would have to apply it to each single citation. And when I apply a style to a whole text, my whole work would be in vain. Is there any other way? Greetings, Ociel
GarryP
Welcome to the forums @Ociel I think the manual application of a specific paragraph style to every citation is the only way. Otherwise how would the software know what you think is a citation unless you tell it?
Ociel
Thanks. Using quotation marks is some kind of telling that I want to cite something I thought maybe there could be an option to disable spell checking for everything that's between quotation marks. GarryP
What about body text with people ‘talking’ in it? E.g. When asked, GarryP said “It’s not quite that simple” and then added, somewhat unhelpfully, “but maybe someone else has a better answer.”
Ociel
If such a function could only be activated manually, that would not be a problem It would be helpful, if you know that there are only cases of citation, where you don't want the spell checker to be enabled. In my case I write a German text and use English words in some places. I use quotation marks for them because obviously they are not words of the language I use for the text. And because the language was set to German in Publisher the spell checker underlines all these words with red. It's not the end of the world, but annoying, if I use the checklist for important errors.

If you want the English words to be removed form the Spellchecking then you can set up a Character style based on [No Style], name it English Spelling, and change nothing other than the spelling language. Apply the English Spelling Character Style to those words. Ociel
That's what I meant in the first post (to apply a style), but it would be very inefficient because I use English words in many places in the text (which is dozens of pages long🙃). I hoped that there would be an easier way.

If you are going to the trouble of using quotation marks around the English words then you can search for them (English words) and apply the Character Style English Spelling by using regular expression find and replace. Myself I would not use "Quotes" but an Underscore like _this_ Find: _(\S.+?)_ Replace: \1 with English Spelling character style. Because the underscores are outside the parentheses they will not be included in the replace.
