dcgall
I'm trying to reduce the number of colors in my document. There are several "reds" that are close in tone and I want to reduce it to one swatch. To do this, I created a Swatch Pallet from document. I then created a NEW object and filled it with the one of the unwanted "reds". In theory - when I choose "Select Same/Fill" I should have a selection of the existing "red" (as found in the "Swatch Pallet from Document" AND the object I just created and filled with that color - Right? No. After Select Same/Fill - AF only selects the new object. ?? AF found the unwanted "red" when it created the pallet, but did not find it when "Select Same / Fill". Just a thought - does "create pallet from document" also grab existing swatches? thanks,
R C-R
Select Same > Fill Color only applies to objects that have exactly the same fill color, & will select all parts of each of those objects, not just the parts that have one color if an object includes more than one color like almost all "(Pixel)" (raster) layer objects do. So for example, while you could use this to select every text & vector object that has exactly the same gradient fill, it can't be used to select any single color in that gradient, or any pixels in raster objects that have the same colors. dcgall
There are no pixel layers or gradients in my document. All content is vector, single color no stroke objects. I'll repeat my steps. I create a palette from the document. I see multiple "reds" of the same hue. My objective is to have one "red". I create a new object (not present when palette was created) and fill that object with one the reds that I want to find. Presumably, the Select Same will find my new object and all other objects that it "thought" was present when it created the Palette. After "Select Same" - only the NEW object is found/Selected. That's my problem. The "Create Palette" said that "Red.1" would in the doc, but after creating a NEW object, "Red.1" was not found in the hundreds of objects/reds that the "Create Palette" reported to be in the doc. Either "Same Select" is not working or "Create Palette" is reporting bogus reds. To determine if "Create Palette" is bogus, I would have to check hundreds of objects to see if the "red" I'm trying to find is truly in the doc or not. I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone else has had this problem. thanks

Or just create a test document with 3 red rectangles in it and create a palette I think you will find that the RBG values of the palette colours are NOT identical to the 3 original colours Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. You are assuming that each and every red in the palette is present in an object. The Palettes colours are from the Document, but those colours have not yet been applied to anything in the document. I too would expect a case where an exact match of colours would be selected as 'the same' but one of the objects has Palette 3 colour and the other has the exact same RGB values but is a null name colour. So maybe not a bug but still a weird way to work at selecting 'same' colours. When you have hundreds of reds to create a palette from then the problem will be a case of there being no actual match being possible, it is a different problem caused by interpolation/extapolation. I am assuming you have a dozen or so colours in the created palette, not hundreds. In other words you have hundreds of objects sharing dozens(s) of reds. Can you provide us with a simplified example of this, one with just a few rectangles or other vector objects, all with the same hue? Also, when you say they have the same hue, do you mean the same color, or just the same hue but possibly different saturation and/or lightness values? walt.farrell
I might approach the problem differently. Create the red that I want and save it in a palette. Pick a red object on the screen, and do a Select Same Fill Color. Change them to the red from the palette. Hide all of selected objects in the Layers panel (should be 1 click on the visibility checkbox). Iterate from step 2, until there is no red visible.
