Just got this program a few days ago. I like it but I cannot get soft return to work right.

I often copy raw text from a notepad or other place. If the line is longer then the page in AP then the text wraps as expected but it wraps back to the same line looking all garbled. It does not wrap to the next line and shove everything down like it should. I have tried playing with many settings and Google isn't getting me anywhere. Please help.

Thanks

Welcome to the forums @jarrod0987

You don’t say which “program” you are using, there are three Affinity applications: Designer, Photo and Publisher.
(You used the initials AP but that’s Photo which doesn’t (normally) use “pages” which you mentioned.)

I don’t understand the line which says “If the line is longer then the page in AP then the text wraps as expected but it wraps back to the same line looking all garbled.” Does it do what is expected or does it do something that is garbled? You seem to be saying two different things with the same sentence.

The more clearly you specify the problem the better we can help you.

Note: Full-screen screenshots are usually useful but I don’t know if you can post them yet as you have only just joined and new users have restrictions applied to what they can post.

Unfortunately, many users refer to Affinity Photo or Affinity Publisher (or both!) as AP, instead of abbreviating the former as APh and the latter as APu or APub. However, in this particular case I think the OP must be using Publisher, and it’s probably the ‘Leading Override’ setting that’s fouling things up.

That sounds like you have your leading set incorrectly. A screenshot would be useful, including the Character panel while the text cursor is in the affected text. Or (perhaps even better) a sample Affinity file (.afdesign, .afphoto, or .afpub) that illustrates the problem.

Or possibly that the leading in the Paragraph panel is set to zero or just a few points?
