Publisher Workbook text styles missing?

Recommended Posts

I'm working on the Spotlight magazine section in the Affinity Publisher Workbook.  I've been working with the whole suite for over a year, but decided to try some more formal exercises.  In this exercise, it uses a download file for importing text styles to "save time," which I've done.  However, I'm only a short way into the project, and so far I've found 3 text styles that don't exist.  I deleted all the existing text files and re-imported that text stile file ((magazine_text_styles.afpub).  Still missing.  The first one missing was -SP- Body Bold (I created it myself so I can use it).  Now it's missing Slug Sans Cap and Head x4 Italic.

Now, I can go ahead and create my own text styles for these, but thinking either I'm losing my mind, importing incorrectly, or those text styles are missing from the file.  I probably would have saved more time creating the styles myself rather than keep trying to figure out why I cannot find them.  If someone is new to Publisher, and using the Workbook to learn more skills and practice, this could prove even more perplexing to them.  Or am I missing something myself?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums, Darrel, and sorry for the delay.

I don't think you're missing anything, as I see the same thing. There are several text styles referenced in that section of the Workbook that I don't see in the supplied .afpub file, and that we are not instructed to create ourselves.

Hopefully, when the Serif team recovers from the backlog that developed during their holiday break, one of them can check further, and get this logged as an issue so an improved set of workbook resources can be provided for future users.

Note: For now, all of the missing text styles can be found, I think, in the magazine_contents_start.afpub file referenced on page 254 of the Publisher workbook. So it might be wise to import the text styles from that file rather than from the file referenced on page 235.

That worked, although what I discovered is that the Workbook has a few places where you edit the default text styles from the original text style import......because I imported from the finished document that was already done.....took me a few "wait, that's already styled"  before I realized why the instructions given had already been done.  More sleep needed perhaps?
